Outdoor Facilities
Swadelands is located in the picturesque market village of Lenham between Maidstone and Ashford. Due to our location in the Kent countryside we are fortunate enough to have extensive playing fields that we use for all our outdoor activities.
During the autumn and winter terms we have enough room for both upper and lower school football pitches, a full size rugby pitch, two 5 a-side pitches and a 7 a-side pitch.
During the summer term we mark out a grass 400m running track. We also have designated areas marked out for 3 athletics throwing events, javelin, shot-putt and discus, in addition to this we have a long and triple jump pit with runway which altogether allows the PE department to run a variety of athletic events over the summer term.
We have an extensive hard court multi use games area. In total there are 4 netball courts and 8 tennis courts. In addition we have 2 outdoor basketball courts.
Together with our sports community partners, Lenham Swimming club, in the summer months we make use of our own 20x8m outdoor heated swimming pool for curriculum lessons and lunchtime clubs.
Lenham Swimming club use this facility extensively out of school hours and during the summer holidays.
Indoor Facilities
Swadelands has a 4 badminton court Sports Hall with additional markings for a netball court, full size basketball court and 8 training baskets around the side of the Hall, volleyball court and five a side football. The Sports Hall is used for a large number of curricular and extra-curricular activities as well has heavily used by our community sports partners.
The sports hall is also large enough to house all trampolining activities that take place within the school during curriculum time.
The main hall is used to teach gymnastics, dance and some aspects of fitness. We have a wide range of small and large apparatus including wall bars, pommel horse and trampettes which are used for gymnastic activities.
Our New Facility
During 2006 the school site changed with the development and construction of the new multi-gym and dance studio. This building replaced the old Youth Centre that was visible from the Ham Lane entrance to the school.
The construction of this building has allowed the PE department to deliver aspects of the subject that have been restricted in the past due to our location in Kent. We will now have access to our own multi gym where we can deliver and aid the understanding of our pupils in regards to their knowledge of weight training and other aspects of health and fitness, this is particularly important at GCSE level.
As well as this we will have an area designated specifically for the teaching and development of dance at curriculum and examination level.
At the same time our changing facilities are being refurbished for school and community use.
