The Hideaway Hair & Beauty Centre at Swadelands School is a purpose built state of the art commercial Hair & Beauty salon which opened September 2009. The aim of the centre is to give Swadelands students the opportunity to experience an ethos of workplace etiquette, attitude and practice along with the chance to develop skills specific to the hair and beauty industry standard whilst gaining City & Guilds qualifications which are recognised across the industry. Students also develop transferable skills in teamwork, problem solving and communication, all elements attractive to future employers and which link to other occupational sectors.
The centre is equipped with the latest industry equipment and we offer services and treatments using professional products ranges including Wella professional hair products and the prestigious Susan Monlaneux skin care range. Department teaching staffs are highly experienced industry specialists with wide-ranging experience gained through extensive careers in both industry and education. There are also future plans to work in collaboration with other partner organisations to offer bespoke training courses, adult education courses specific to the hair and beauty sector and local community demand.
The department has increased its curriculum offer to include:
- Level 2 Diploma (NVQ) in Women’s Hairdressing (Key Stage 5)
- Level 2 Diploma (NVQ) in Beauty Therapy (Key Stage 5)
- Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing (Key Stage 4)
- Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Key Stage 4)
- Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector (Key Stage 3 – Year 9)
