Activate was opened in February 2007, having been initially funded through both Swadelands School and The Big Lottery Fund. Our aim was to create a varied programme of events, catering for all users within the community, ensuring competitive pricing and giving users a safe, friendly environment to exercise and help achieve their goals.

Activate is a dual use facility that caters for both Swadelands School pupils aswell as our local community. Pupils get to use the facility during their PE lessons with additional sessions running during their lunch breaks aswell after school clubs. The facility is open for community use out of school hours.  There are also future plans to open the facility on Sundays and use the centre as a training venue for fitness related courses.

In January 2008 we set up a highly successful exercise referral scheme with Len Valley surgery. The scheme is available to local people that have been referred to us via their GP. GP’s refer patients that could be suffering from a range of conditions with their full medical history to us. An initial consultation is carried out and then an exercise plan is designed to improve the patients condition. Healthy eating plans are also made readily available giving members nutritional and dietary advice.
